Oct. Update

The last few weeks have been extremely busy, and thus I’ve been remiss in updating my blog with worthwhile information about the things I’m doing on campus. Please accept my apologies for that and the lengthy post to follow.

Late September and October was a busy time for events on campus. We hosted a Primetime (speakers and entertainment on a spiritual theme). That weekend was my birthday and my boyfriend, Larry, came to visit! He was able to meet the students and see firsthand some of the impact that FOCUS is having at UNF.

The student leaders and missionaries had a car wash to raise money for our leadership conference in January. It was pretty successful for a cloudy Saturday and we raised 1/3 of our total budget for the conference! (Plus, we had a lot of fun.)

Sarah Akers, the FOCUS regional director for the east coast, came to visit and presented a dynamic talk for the students about “magnanimity” and how to strive for personal excellence in everything we do. [It’s hard to capture a picture of her without her hands being blurry; she uses them a lot when she talks!]

We hosted some great Women’s Nights that not only gave the ladies (we keep getting new people coming every time!) a fun event to attend on a Friday night (yay! for wholesome alternatives to drinking and crazy parties) but also helped them to connect with other Catholic and Christian young women. Cynthia and I also spent a portion of each evening talking to the women about an aspect of living a full Christian life on campus. The women always follow up with intriguing questions and animated discussions.

So far, we have four new Bible studies up and running this year and some new students have added onto our old ones! I’ve had a wonderful time getting to know the students better and seeing them grow through those times together spent studying the Word of God and how it applies to our lives.
